Title
18–.10.07 – Catherine Huntington to Mary Huntington, Oct. 7, 18–
Description
Catherine Huntington writes to her sister Mary Huntington who attends school away from home. The subject of the letter largely considers domestic tasks, including foraging and quilting. The letter also addresses the well being of family and relations, including Harriette, Elvira, and Frederic. The casual subject and tone of the letter suggest that such correspondence between the sisters was routine.

My Dear sister Mary,
As I intend to keep a journal till Tuesday (a long time) I will begin it this evening. Bethia said that you had the stomach-ache pretty hard this afternoon I am very sorry but hope you are quite well now. I feel so very lonesome indeed this evening that I do not know what to do.
Monday evening I have sat down again my dear Mary to write to you. Which is the pleasantest task I have to perform. The quilt is almost pieced up. But I have not helped much about it. I went up to the chestnut tree in our lot this afternoon with Frederic and Elvira I got a few: F and E went over into the woods and F got a pint. F came home.
I hope your school is as pleasant as it was last week and more so if possible. Mrs. Hosman sends her love to you, as do the rest of us you know how we all feel. Give my love to Harriette and tell her I shall be very sorry if she gets reads this letter. Do write so that we can get it Saturday. Bethia says she intends to write the latter part of this week. Goodbye
From your affectionate sister Catherine
P.S. We are all in well health
