_____ly Febr 8th 1830–

My Dear Whiting1,

As your pa2 is just about going to the Post-office, I hastily write a few lines to inform you that we want your ( ? ) by Chris Hubbard3 who was to leave it with Theodore4 – as he went last week. I hope you will get it before long. We measured your letter directed to me a week ago last Saturday for which I thank you – and shall take another time to answer it – we had one from William5 the same day to Theophilus.6 He says his school has increased to forty scholars- and his time would go out in about a month from that time, which was the twenty third of January. He moreover mentioned that he had had the offer of a private school in Mifflin- but mother thought he should not accept. Bethia7 [ has had an ( ? ) in her face which distracted her about a week, but last Wednesday she had two which has growth in mood this [indecipherable]. Mary8 has it now but not (? ) as bad as Bethia.9 Mrs. Mills and Helen10, with William11 and Harrieth drank tea leaves Saturday- and yesterday afternoon, your pa and Theodore went to Northampton to a meeting.
Do write soon, and let us know if you can keep warm in this extreme cold weather. I hope you have a stove, there warm. I think you must suffer. When I tell you that it is Monday half after one o’clock- you will excuse me if I leave you truthfully and just say that I am as was your affectionate mother.
