Mother-

Mr. F. D. Huntington
Amherst College-

Tuesday morning.

Dear F.

Our Albany friends left us yesterday, between two and three o’clock. Eliza spent her evening and night with us.

Theophilus took our carriage and horses and intends to be back on Friday. he will try to persuade your aunt [Lyan?]1 to come with him and stay till summer.
Your father walked down this morning to attend examination2 at the Academy.3
I attended you last evening at Mrs. Delano’s party. With the thinking and serious minded, perhaps these occasions afford as good an opportunity as any to honor religion before the [tho’tless?], and pray. But it requires some distraction, and much of the “fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom,” to resist the temptation to levity on the one hand, and to avoid the appearance of severity and [???] on the other. It is indeed as happy thing for us, that we have the [lives than have ???] up before us in all its beautiful symmetry, in the example of Him, [???…honor?] regard us our [Teacher?], and of whose presence and [???] we should ever be mindful-as due regard to this, and the practice of frequent fervent constant devotional exercises, will do much to qualify us, for [???] [sing?] the [???], “Let your light so shine before men, that they seeing your good work may glorify your Father who is in Heaven. It give me much [???] to believe that you have entered [???] that [???], which will lead you on to perfect day and perfect happiness.
Your [breath?] will go with this.

Your truly devoted mother,
Elizabeth
